For this week we have new words to add to our keywords/ingredients. The new words I chose were Layer, Amalgamate, and Dissolve. These words I used in conjunction with last week's and set out themes for the next sets of constraints.
The video above shows a combination of 4 items within one space. This so happens to have the keywords: Amalgamate, Layer, and Ephemeral. Incidentally, these keywords fit how it is presented as well as what is within the space.
Setting the Table:
Like the short-lived nature of the words Dissolve and Ephemeral, I use particle systems. While in an editor, they can last infinitely, outside of it can be just short moments, fleeting ones if you will. Layer and Amalgamate combine other ingredients (or keywords) to form new ideas or generate updates for old ones. While my use of Solid is in how fragmented things are, the use of Standardized is just that. Flipping the words, finding their antonyms or related words helps shape the artefacts I produce; they get me thinking outside of the square yet refine what I bring to the table. Processes that these have gone through and are a part of include constant iteration, playtesting, and prototyping. The iteration focuses on honing the use of, say, particle systems and their movement. Playtesting consists of playing the game, finding what works and what failed miserably, to which both are great. Prototyping, in its many forms, uses the shift from paper (analogue) to video game (digital), upgrading the use or flow of an artefact, and the process of creating said artefacts (linking it back to the iterative process).
Reflection of Week One:
While presenting our artefacts in class we were each tasked with figuring out what everyone's keywords were. After a person presented their stuff we would ponder to what the words were from the matrix. Our current research question had to be next to the work to see if there was a correlation between our work and the question, for most it worked well. It was a good indicator of if we were actually headed in the right direction and whether or not we were addressing the question or moving away from it. Below was the feedback I got:
It showed, in how no one got all three of my words, that I was somewhat able to show my three words, but not all at once. Ephemeral was noticed more than others, where Solid and Standardized were seen less.
