Week Five - Mapping Continued

Although the class was cut short for myself and others, as there was a relevant game design talk. While we were there, however, we were to revisit map-making. Previously we had to create a map with keywords linked to our then research questions (from this I then made a table where it showed the intersection of keywords). Unlike that map, we had to now look for our main contexts in relation to our question.

So in the center could be our question and we could choose any form of mapping once again. I opted for, initially, the same style I did previously. This then became a little difficult and I changed to a standard mind-map.

In the time I missed in class some of my peers grouped together to perform feedback in order to help find more contexts or refine what was there. Unfortunately, as the talk spanned the rest of the class, it did mean that I missed out on the opportunity to gain similar feedback and bounce ideas back and forth to better ascertain what my contexts were, small discussion did prove useful. This came in the form of realizing (in the time before the talk) that most of my tools or methods could also be the context of my question. So while using Unreal Engine 4 as a method for creating my game, it was also the context behind limitations, it is the platform for my game, it directly ties into the Virtual Reality aspect of my game (in itself VR is also a method and context), and it controls the output of everything to do with my project. Similarly, Strangeness fell into a similar hole where it was what was to be evoked, but it was the reason for what many of the rooms in the project are like.
